About The Garden

The Cook’s Garden has called Abbot Kinney home for nearly a decade. Being situated in the middle of one of the most popular shopping destinations in the country, we are a bit of a shock to most passers-by. While the crow of our rooster, cluck of our chickens, or quack of our ducks may draw you in at first, the sight of our enormous garden, edible plant nursery, and garden shop are reasons to stay awhile. This peaceful sanctuary of sustainability welcomes visitors. Through our work, we hope to nourish bodies and souls as much as we do plants! So come grow, learn and gather with us.

Grow and Learn

We’re here to help you on your journey to bring the growing of food closer to the consumption of food. Whether you join our Harvesting Subscription programs, become a nursery client, browse through our shop or take our classes, we’ve got all you need to succeed in our garden or yours.

Gather

Especially now, we believe gathering with our community is important. After the re-opening of our society, our in-person learning events and classes have returned. In addition to exploring new creative and mind-expanding experiences, our events, workshops and concerts offer a social experience that we have so sorely missed these past few years. We hope you’ll join us!

We love visitors, but since Covid, we are now only open on the weekends. Should you not be able to visit in person, we’re offering this virtual tour which will guide you through our garden’s past and present. If you’re ready for an in-person visit, we are too! See you in the garden soon.

NOTE: The pandemic was life-changing for all of us which we’ll be recovering from for years. Prior to 2020, ninety percent of our business was growing for restaurants. All of that changed literally overnight, March 13, 2020 to be exact. Although we were able to pivot more heavily to growing subscriptions for local residents allowing us to stay open during the lock-down, our restaurant business is still slow in returning. We are optimistic and know that this is a new era in our decades-long tenure here. To help us off-set at least some of the cost of operation, we are asking our casual visitors to donate $2.50/person to enter the garden now. The donation will be applied to any purchase made. This small donation will help us sustain our animal sancturary and help us be there to take in the next chicken, duck, turkey or bunny that needs us.
